Figure drawing

We're very sorry, but we still cannot meet safely for figure drawing.  We'll see what happens in 2021.  We hope everyone is well, financially and health-wise, and finding other outlets for our creativity.

Here are some options for drawing.  If you have other suggestions to post here, please email  Christie.Washburn@gmail.com or Janet.Hamlin@gmail.com

Art Students League, NYC offers Zoom figure drawing

AJ the model is conducting zoom sessions Sunday mornings and other times:

A small group of artists from another drawing group I was modeling at are starting to have longer pose sessions online via zoom.  We are meeting a couple of times a week at random days/times whenever artists are available.  We are usually having one morning session and one evening session per week.  The theme so far is working on longer poses with the model. Usually starting with an hour of shorter poses and then 2 hours of one or several longer pose.  Some artists like short online sessions and others prefer long so making it as flexible as possible for the artists.

Sunday Morning  10am-1pm

We are using Paypal for donations it is $5 per hour to draw for up to 3 hours for $15 per session.

If your interested in attending let AJ know:  <ajtra@hotmail.com>

Lauren Rudolf has drawing classes - https://www.laurenrudolph.com/

I am offering both private and group lessons through zoom. If this is something you would be interested in, please contact me to discuss what you would be interested in pursuing. We can work on portraiture or any subject matter you would like to explore. I work with adults and younger students as well.

Group Classes $25 per student with a minimum of 4 students

Private Lessons $80 per class or $300 for 4 classes

Dan Dugan

Dan Dugan ran figure drawing in Nyack at the Hopper House for years before he moved on and I took over as a volunteer in 2008. From time to time he would come to our sessions, or I’d see him at an Art Fair, surrounded by his fluid and lovely drawings. Thank you, Dan, for all you did to keep the arts going in Nyack. Rest In Peace.

Rockland Center for the Arts
In Memory of Dan Dugan
We are saddened to share the news that artist and RoCA instructor Dan Dugan recently passed away from coronavirus complications. For more than 20 years, Dan was a fixture as a well-loved teacher of our Drawing and Painting the Human Figure and Introduction to Drawing classes. He taught with a patient, non-invasive style—“coaching,” as he explained it—meant to guide his students through their work.
Dan Dugan was a former assistant to Professor Roger Hendricks at SUNY Purchase. He was widely exhibited in the NY/NJ area and taught in Montreal, Canada, Cairns, Australia and Eastchester, New York. Dan was an exceptional fine artist as well as a photographer who specialized in alternative processes. He was also a teacher and practitioner of massage therapy.
Dan was a kind, good-humored soul. On his Facebook page, he describes himself thus: “I’m an explorer.” It could be said that his life was one of openness to the endless wonder in life. His wry bearded grin will be dearly missed.

Drawings at the Morgan Library

Note from Cheryl Herndon:

While cruising the internet over the weekend, I found that The Morgan Library in NYC (themorgan.org) has numerous collections (including drawings by many renowned artists) available to browse while were all maintaining social distancing.
Browse and enjoy!
... For instance: Paul Cezanne SketchBook, Portrait Drawings from Durer to Picasso, Degas Drawings and Sketchbooks and many more 👍

Online figure drawing option- THIS SATURDAY MARCH 28

Hello artists,
We hope this finds you all safe and healthy. Here is an option that one of our
artists, Trine Giaever, shared with us. It costs $10. Details below.

Live Stream | Lauren Redding (MFA 2011)
About: In lieu of our usual Open Life Drawing sessions on Saturdays, H&R Studio is presenting a Short Pose Gesture Drawing Livestream. H&R Studio will livestream a live model, working in short gesture poses, for two hours in real time. This livestream format is ideal for quickly-changing, dynamic poses as opposed to a long pose. You simply tune in and draw from home. The model will wear a Speedo as this format is more public than traditional nude modeling.
Cost: $10.00, paid via H&R Studio’s website
Date: This Saturday, March 28th
Time: 10 AM-12 Noon EST
Registration: https://handrstudio.com/livestream-demonstrations/gesture-drawing-livestream (Participants will be emailed a private link to the livestream upon receipt of registration)

No figure drawing for April

We are so sorry, but feel it's necessary to cancel figure drawing for the month of April, at least.  We will update later about May and June.  Please add your email to follow the blog, if you don't already.

It's a difficult time for everyone.  Please stay healthy, and in touch with your friends and family.  Try a self-portrait!  You can send it to me or Janet, to post on this blog.

March 12, 2020 - Mavis

Mavis inspired us, as she always does.  We drew, taking precautions around wiping surfaces down and washing hands.  However, we will not meet for the next 3 weeks at least.  Please subscribe to the blog for updates.  And stay healthy!

Among the artists present were Adrian Menichelli, Diana, Peter Bellen, Peter Vecchio, Myles Aronowitz, Emily Clark, Shelly Luan, Edi, Debbie Herman, Lauren Boer, Sandy Bandes, and Christie Washburn.
